Mr. M. Wiersma - Superintendent and Principal of Elementary School
Mr. M. Wiersma : Superintendent and Principal of Elementary School

Greetings CPCS families! My family and I are grateful for all that God has done, and is doing in our lives, to bring us to Crown Point Christian School. A glimpse into my educational background reveals I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education from Calvin College in the spring of 1998. In 2006, I completed my master’s degree in educational technology from California Polytechnic University - Pomona and served various technology needs while teaching in the school computer lab. In December of 2010, I completed a master’s degree in faith-based leadership from California Baptist University.

My wife Jamie and I were married in 2000 and have been blessed with three young boys, who attend Crown Point Christian School. I was born and raised in Michigan and was blessed to receive a Christian education my entire life. My free time is spent with family, often involved in the variety of activities young boys enjoy, personal interests include: running, swimming, and reading.

Christian education is unique in that it brings together knowledge and truth, thereby meeting the needs of each student. Christian education is also unique because it stands in the middle of two things that God loves deeply: kids and truth. Bible passages like Mark 9:37 and Mark 10:14 demonstrate the value Jesus places on children.  Mark 9:37 reads, "Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me.” Mark 10:14 also says, "When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these."

We are reminded that in God are found all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge when we read Colossians 2:3. What a great honor we have to tie these two beloved things together by creating intersections of faith and learning for our students.

Hello everyone.  My name is Nick Groen and this will be my fifth year at Crown Point Christian School.  I am excited to serve the CPCS community as Assistant Superintendent & Middle School Principal.  After receiving a B.A. in History and Secondary Education, along with a middle school endorsement at Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa, I moved from my hometown of Sioux Fall, South Dakota to Miami, Florida.  For seven years I taught high school social studies at Westminster Christian School.  Additionally, I was very active in coaching, teacher training, and technology development.  In 2011, I completed my Masters in Educational Leadership from the University of Scranton.

My wife Katie and I have been blessed with two children. Our daughter, Ella, is a student at CPCS and our son, Luca, who is two years old.  My family and I live in Crown Point and are active members at First Christian Reformed Church of Crown Point. In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family, working on home improvement projects, playing sports, reading and traveling.

It is a passion for education and the Lord that has led me on this career path and to this position.  I hope to continue to have a positive impact on the CPCS community and look forward to working with you.

I joined CPCS in February, 2009, and enjoy my role as Office Manager. I graduated from Illinois State University with a Bachelor of Science in Finance and worked at Chicago Title & Trust Company in Chicago before taking time off to be a full-time mom. I am happy to be back in the working world. At CPCS I enjoy being surrounded by such positive energy and people who truly care for each other and work for a common goal.

I am married to my husband, Butch, and have two daughters.  Jessi attends Illinois State University and Rachel attends Illiana Christian High School.

My favorite bible verse is Ecclesiastes 3.1, "To everything there is a season and time for every purpose under heaven."

I love the chapter of Romans 12 as it is a life lesson through and through. Mr. Z. Hoskins - Director of Information Technology
Mr. Z. Hoskins : Director of Information Technology

Hello, my name is Zach Hoskins, and I am so grateful to be here at Crown Point Christian School as the Director of Information Technology. I am originally from Hebron, Indiana, but have lived in Phoenix, Arizona for the past 5 years. While living in Phoenix, I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education and my Master’s Degree in IT Management, both from Grand Canyon University. After completing college, my wife Sammy and I felt led to move back to Indiana, and we now live in Highland. We currently do not have any children, but have two “fur babies” (a dog and a cat named Buddy and Minnie Meowse).

Prior to working at Crown Point Christian School, I worked in the IT Department at Grand Canyon University, and held many different IT jobs there. When I’m not working on computers, I love enjoying God’s beautiful creation, whether that be going on bike rides, playing golf, or just going on a walk with my wife. I also really enjoy music, and play a couple instruments. One Bible verse that really speaks to me is Colossians 3:23-24: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”

My name is Lisa Knight and I am the Admissions Coordinator as well as an office aide here at Crown Point Christian School. My husband and I have been married for 30 years and attend Crosspoint church in Crown Point. We have 3 grown children and two grandchildren. When I am not at work I love being with my family and doing anything outdoors.

My favorite verses are Romans 8:38 & 39:  "For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angel, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Rachel (1998 CPCS graduate) is married to Nathan Carlberg, and they reside in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  Rachel and Nathan blessed us with our first two grandchildren. Our little Judah (3) and Deacon (9 months) are simply the best grandsons ever! We also love to grandparent their sweet little foster child (2). Rachel is a speech/language pathologist, and Nathan is an elementary school principal at an urban, Christian charter school in Milwaukee. Jessica (2002 CPCS graduate) is married to Doug VanNoort, and they live in Dyer, IN. She is a medical assistant in Merrillville, and Doug works as a union plumber in Chicago. Some of my favorite things to do are spending time with family, reading, and traveling. A couple of my favorite Bible verses are "Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation." (Isaiah 12:2) and "Be still and know that I am God." (Psalm 46:10a).

My name is Sidney Smith and I am a sophomore at Purdue University Northwest studying for my Computer Information Technology Bachelor's degree. I love to help out and being here at Crown Point Christian School allows me to help and to further my studies at the same time.

I live in Hammond at the Purdue dorms. When I'm not at work or in school, I enjoy reading, programming, catching up on the latest computer hardware and supplementing my education with online courses. I'm also enrolled in the honors college at Purdue so a good chunk of my time is dedicated to volunteering, helping out the honors college and helping out my fellow students. After college, I plan on furthering my education and would like to work for a company such as Microsoft or Google in the future.

She finds it a privilege to work in a Christ-centered environment where each and every staff member has the same goal in mind; to bring praise to the Lord in all that we do.  Lisa and her family have a verse that they look to daily: Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." This verse reminds them that the plans he has for us are so much larger than what we have planned for ourselves.
