Early Childhood

(2 Day & 3 Day PreK)

At CPCS, we believe each child is created in the image of God and has an important and unique role to play in sharing His redeeming love with the world around them.

Through play-based learning, as well as structured learning activities, our PreK students learn more about God and how to share His love with others. Open-ended play experiences give children an opportunity to build a strong social/emotional foundation and to engage and make sense of God’s world.

Play fosters creativity and imagination, problem-solving, motor skills, and self-discipline. It is also foundational for pre-literacy and language skills, preparing children for more structured learning later in life. Through a combination of play-based learning and structured activities, students at CPCS receive a well-rounded education.

Our Heart & Approach

Our PreK program, based on the Indiana Early Learning Standards, includes:

Math

Students engage in active learning activities, develop skills and explore concepts at various centers, and practice oral language skills by working together and with their teacher to review what they learn. They work on counting, shapes, colors, and beyond.

Literacy, Pre-Reading, and Writing

Writing activities, storytime, and songs help children develop important literacy and language skills. Phonological awareness activities are woven throughout the curriculum.

Faith Formation

Prayer and discussion about God’s beautiful creation are woven into every aspect of the PreK day. Students memorize scripture and dig into God’s Word each day.

Through scientific inquiry, students learn about plants and animals, the five senses, seasons, and health.

Science

  • Students learn about rhythm, pitch, and instruments in Music class.

  • Each week, students work on problem-solving skills and inquiry in STEAM. They also have the opportunity to check out books from the school library.

  • Our 3-day PreK students participate in PE class and work on their physical and social skills. Each PreK student also has three recesses a day, an opportunity to work on gross motor skills and learn about taking turns.
