Ms. Sterk~Music Teacher

Ms. Sterk The musical life of Carolyn Sterk began at the age of six years old, with the onset of piano lessons. Endless hours of practice helped to develop a passion for music and performance. With continued parental encouragement, Ms. Sterk attended the American Conservatory of Music, in Chicago. In addition to the piano performance degree, continued education provided both a music education degree, as well as a Master of Education. Currently, she resides in Lansing, IL and has one daughter, Annalisa. With a strong Christian faith, she has dedicated her talents to God, bringing praise and honor to Him, through music.

After performing professionally for many years, Ms. Sterk retired into a music teaching career. She has been a piano instructor for students from beginner level to collegiate level, for many years. She has developed a preschool music program for children, two years of age through kindergarten, the Children's Musical Institute, in Flossmoor, Il. CMI is a successful program continuing since its inception in 1988.

Through the years, Ms. Sterk has served as a church musician, choir director for adult and children, praise leader, praise team director, in addition to composing and arranging music. Currently, she is the praise director and choral conductor at Trinity Reformed Church, In Munster, IN.

For over a decade, Ms. Sterk has been the music teacher for C.P.C.S. Since joining the faculty, she has developed the music curriculum, the choral program, the band program, in addition to writing and directing the school musicals every year. Ms. Sterk has instituted CPCS involvement in Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra educational programs, Illiana Christian and Covenant Christian High School Music Festivals, ISSMA solo competition and most recently, the Ravinia Luncheon Concert Series for student performance. The objective of CPCS music program is to musically educate, inspire creative musical talents, promote self-assurance, bring praise to God through music, and to place a song in the children's hearts that will remain for the rest of their lives.

Her favorite Bible verse is Romans 8:28, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose”.
