Girls On The Run 2019

Girls on the Run, SO MUCH FUN!

That is a little rhyme we say often during our GOTR season. This spring we have a record 44 third through fifth grade girls who completed our practice 5K on Tuesday, May 7, and will run the big regional5K in Highland on Saturday, May 18.

The Girls on the Run (International) mission is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. They envision a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams. At Crown Point Christian School we integrate our faith into every lesson. We have worked with topics such as resolving conflict, choosing friends, team building, cooperating, empathy, community, and self-esteem. The running is a vehicle to help the girls gain confidence, strength, wellness and self-control. Community service is also a focus of Girls on the Run. Since we have a large team we divide the group into for smaller groups to help each girl to make new friends and to discuss topics. We also have four separate service projects that will be completed after the 5K in Highland.

Our coaches this spring are Sarah Schaaf, Susan Tambrini, Amanda VanNoort, Amy Krygier, Carrie Bruns, Nikki VanDam, Tara Moxey, Tammy Gorter and Betsy Zimmer. We also have the pleasure of having Rachel Huisman (Illiana senior) for the third year and Elle Carpenter (6th grade, who completed three years of Girls on the Run) as junior coaches.
